He causes the grass to grow for the cattle, and herb for the service of man:  that he  may bring forth food out of the earth…    Psalm 104:14

Hobbs Hereford Farm

We raise all natural, grass fed Polled Herefords. These are purebred, line-bred, registered cattle with top genetics. They come from our pastures to your dinner table via our local trustworthy USDA certified locker services, aged to perfection, and cut to your specifications.

We are certified as a Minnesota Quality Beef Producer, with over 30 years in the business. We take pride in our product from start to finish, and we look forward to serving your needs.

                                                          Beyond Organic (Safe)

We use no hormones, pesticides, herbicides, insecticides, commercial fertilizers, animal byproduct feeds or vaccinations on our farm. Rarely have we had to use antibiotics. We do use all natural vitamins, minerals and sea salt to supplement an all natural diet of grass and hay.

Heart Healthy (Researched)

Our grass fed beef has two to four times more ‘good fats’ (Omega 3’s) and less ‘bad fats’ than grain fed animals.  It is one of the richest known sources of ‘conjugated linoleic acid’ (CLA -a good fat), and richer in vitamin E and other nutrients and antioxidants.  These good fats are known to help in the control of heart disease, cancer, diabetes, obesity, and aging.

Our cattle do not know what grain is.  They eat a mix of rich pasture grasses exclusively in the summer.  In the winter they are fed a mix of 25% cured (dried) hay and 75% vacuum ensiled (sealed, high moisture, green / ‘fresh’) hay that retains a significant portion of the omega-3 fatty acids normally lost in dry hay / forages.*  Thus, our cattle continue to gain and be rich in omega-3’s all year round.

They fatten up naturally, and run under the sun and sleep under the stars 365 days a year.  They are healthy, happy and relaxed.  We sometimes marvel at their health and stamina, and all we do is meet their nutritional needs, talk to them and stay out of their way.  Of course, watching Herefords on green grass has always been healthy, relaxing and made us happy, too!

Quality Control (Care)

We have a good working relationship with our processor, and we work closely with them in order to get the best service and ensure quality control. We are very impressed with the service and the cleanliness of the facility.  Their new facility is family owned and operated.

We hand deliver our beef and then stand by, talking to and observing the butcher and USDA inspector, as each of our cattle is being slaughtered. 10 to 12 days later we normally go back and watch the cutting and wrapping process. A few days later we pick up the frozen meat and deliver all of our orders in person. So we are watching the entire process closely and have been quite satisfied.  We will continue to monitor the processing of our cattle to ensure that every step meets with our own personal standards.

We breed and mate these animals, manage, feed, care for, protect and otherwise nurture them from conception through birth, from weaning to maturity and finally to harvest, which is a significant time investment (usually 24-29 months of care after birth). We do not do all that tender loving care just to be absent in the final stages of the process!  We are into quality control from start to finished product because we care about our cattle, our customers, and our own personal satisfaction from a job well done!
